Whenever we hear or come across the word superstition then automatically we imagine a black cat or walking under the ladder and so on. Different myths all over the world have various superstitions which vary according to their cultural influence and the classic old myths and legends that follow it. Not only that there are a number of animals that are also related to this such as cats, leprechauns, albatross, white doves, black crows or even mermaids.
Again based on these cultural variations there are many who believe in what to do and not to do on New Year and even the preparation of it. China has a series of such list of things to do in preparing for new year 2014 superstitions also follows it. First is that the house should be well cleaned and there should be red color of decorations and foods and clothes to bring in good luck to everyone. It will be followed by visiting and burning incense sticks as remembering and seeking the blessings of the ancestors. On the note for superstition the Chinese have even divided each year based on the lunar calendar to mark the year of certain animals. The year 2014 is the year of the horse and is to be celebrated on the 31st of January based on it.
Even among sailors there is a huge influence of the cat like in the Egyptians who worshiped them. Even albatross to kill it a bad omen and the sailor will also die with it. A cat in the ship not only kills the mice or rats but it also is a good luck charm for them in their voyage. It is so strong that even the wives of the sailors keep a cat at home to help it bring luck for their husbands in the sea. Mermaids are also there who not only lure the men in sea by beauty and beautiful voice, they are said to kill the men after they fall into their prey. Leprechauns are another set of the great Irish myth which is said to have gold where they live.
