The Asian Games is scheduled to be held from November 12 to 27 in Guangzhou, China. NSC has declared to take part in 15 different sports for which around 100 players have been selected. Among the 15 sports, Cricket Association of Nepal is planning to send its men's and women's teams to Guangzhou in its own expense.
Nepal's participation in the 16th Asian Games appears uncertain as the nation is facing delay in announcement of full-fledged budget for the current fiscal year. Finance Minister Surendra Pandey clarified that Nepal could not take part in the games if the present delay in budget continued.
Asian Games 2010 Countries
The 16th Asian Games will take place in Guangzhou from November 12 to 27. Guangzhou is the second city in China to host the Games after Beijing in 1990. Over 14,000 athletes, coaches and trainers from 45 countries and regions are expected to compete in a total of 476 events in 42 sports.
All 53 competition venues and 17 training venues available for the Games are ready. These include the Asian Games Town, which consists of the Athletes' Village, Technical Officials Village, Media Village, Main Media Center and International Broadcast Center.
Contrastingly, in Delhi, only minor venue- Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.The remaing stadiums such as the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium complex, Siri Fort Sports Complex, Tyagaraj Sports Complex, Maj. Dhyan Chand National Stadium, Talkatora Indoor Stadium, Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, Yamuna Sports Complex and Delhi University are still not ready.
Reports indicate that a series of test events entitled 'Vigorous Guangzhou' have commenced from May and will go on till September prior to the opening ceremony of the 16th Asian Games. Thirty-seven sport events under the name of dynamic Guangzhou' are to be held in the Games competition venues in Guangzhou, with the other two in the co-host cities of Foshan and Dongguan respectively.
Guangzhou is also paying host to the Asian Para Games from December 12 to 19, 2010, two weeks after the conclusion of The 16th Asian Games, featuring 3,000 athletes from 41 Asian countries and regions competing in 19 sports.Thailand has hosted four Asian Games, more than any other nation, after twice having secured the Games from crisis.
In its history, only nine nations have hosted the Asian Games. 46 nations have taken part in the Games, including Israel, which was expelled from the Games after their last participation in 1974.
